Hello! This is the page where I’m supposed to tell you how cool I am and why you should book me to make your portrait. Well, I never have been cool, I’m afraid, and I’m not about to start trying to be now! I asked a few clients to help me out by describing me and they said I am friendly, warm and funny. Not quite sure what they mean about that last bit…
But I hope you DO book me, because connecting with people, helping them to create a visual presence online or to rediscover their confidence, or to celebrate and commemorate their lives, loves and children, is what I LOVE TO DO!
I am married to Neil, an awesome Structural Engineer, and we have 4 grown up children and 5 grandchildren who fill my heart with joy.
I work from a purpose built, Natural Light Studio at home in Brixworth, which is in the beautiful heart of England, just 60 minutes from London by train. This is my happy space, my sanctuary, and I love to welcome my clients into my home where they can relax and feel welcome.
Beautiful Brixworth Country Park is on my doorstep and you are welcome to leave your car on my drive after your session so you can walk down and enjoy the countryside.
Of course, I also travel to my clients when required, whether to your office, home or a location that is special to you. Travel expenses are only required if you are more than 30 miles away. In 2017 I have made Portraits as far afield as California, Ohio and New York State and I will be back in the USA 2018.
When I’m not working as a Photographer, or Grandmothering my heart out, I write. In another life I published 19 novels and countless short stories and articles. In fact, I became a Professional Photographer by accident, when I decided to write a book of interviews with people in their fifties.
If you’d like to see my current work in progress, take a look at my “Inspiration Station” blog: www.joblackwell.co.uk
You can also join my Facebook group where I share work in progress and we can talk about the literature you love!
I believe passionately that children need to play outside, to be given freedom to work things out for themselves and that kindness is an underrated virtue that can be taught from a young age.
Three Brother Bears, my Children’s Book series, starring Captain, Blue and Thunder and their friends, is available on Amazon, with a third title due in the Spring. A new blog for parents is being developed, as well as a monthly postal subscription club. In the meantime, you can find a free online story on the website, www.threebrotherbears.com
